Camp Expedition

Camp Expedition dates/ times for Summer 2013 are:

August 5-9

Session One: 9am- 12pm

Session Two: 1pm-4pm

Registration Forms must be received by June 22, 2013.

Each session is $200, or $400 for both morning and afternoon, and there is a non-refundable enrollment fee of $25 due with the Registration Form.

Limited scholarship funds are available. To apply for limited Scholarship Funds, please fill out and submit the Scholarship Application Form. Applications must be received by June 15, 2013. Late applications will not be considered, and all accompanying documentation must be received.

Applicants will be notified AFTER the June 15 deadline and no later than June 26. There will be no confimations or denials prior to the June 15 deadline. 

Scholarships Funds DO NOT cover the Registration Fee of $25.

Camp sessions include mornings from 9 am to 12 pm and afternoons from 1 pm to 4 pm. All campers will need to bring a snack, a bottle of water with their name clearly marked and a change of clothes. If campers are staying for the full day of both sessions, they will need to bring a lunch as well. All Campers must wear closed toed shoes and long pants – there are ticks and poison oak to be wary of!

Camp Expedition is located at Rancho el Chorro in San Luis Obispo on Highway 1 near the County Office of Education (across from Cuesta College, but NOT El Chorro Regional Park).

Each camper will have the opportunity to attend Project Surf Camp on one day of our week at camp. Project Surf Camp is in Morro Bay, and parents may  attend with their child although it is not required. Camp Expedition does not provide transportation. Fees for Project Surf Camp are included in Camp Expedition tuition fees. 

For those Campers who do not wish to attend Project Surf Camp there will be activities and programs at Camp Headquarters (Rancho El Chorro) also.

Mission:
Camp Expedition provides a unique, fun, summer-day-camp experience for children, rich with social opportunities and with an emphasis on nurturing each child’s own gifts and talents.

Camp Expedition pledges to:

• Provide the opportunity to simply “be a kid” for a week or two, without fear of judgment, and where every effort is met with praise and celebration.
• Value each camper’s individual strengths, talents, and special interests. All campers learn to value each other and to respect the inherent gifts of every person.
• Strengthen the social interactions of those on the autism spectrum through quality relationships and meaningful participation.
• Strengthen the social interactions of those not on the autism spectrum through peer mentoring training and the nurturing of empathy and compassion.
• Provide opportunities to bring together families who face challenges of autism and related developmental disorders.

Camp Goals:

Camp Expedition promotes the creation of social and recreational programs designed to meet the unique needs of individuals with autism, while also meeting the needs of their typically developing peers, and integrating these in a fun, summer day camp environment. Many of the children served by Camp Expedition have never had a summer camp opportunity, and by serving families that are underserved either because of financial situations, or the quality and expertise of staff and volunteers that is necessary to meet their child’s needs (or both), Camp Expedition provides respite for the parents and an exciting opportunity for the kids- all in a supportive, non-judgmental environment where research-based pedagogical methods are practiced and instruction decisions are data driven.
